When you use barn wood, mantels, beams or the like there are unique character to each piece. The solid beams installed in the above Gurnee, IL Sun Room addition has mortises cut out from use in old barn beams. The material used for the beams in Burlington, WI were made from three individual pieces of barn wood and fitted together to appear as a solid beam. The mantel used below was a solid beam but it was cut to size for the fireplace in this Burlington, WI addition. In this instance we turned them and filled the mortises to hide them so they did not face outwards.
